We have continued to invest in the local community by sponsoring the purchase of football kits for a new year 5 and 6 mixed football team at Bracken Lane Primary Academy in Retford, near Harron Homes’ Nottinghamshire development, The Brambles.
Bracken Lane Primary Academy, which is part of the Diverse Academies Trust, is competing for the first time ever in the Retford Local League. Providing the schoolchildren with a brand-new home kit, our sponsorship has enabled these budding footballers to play with confidence and style as they compete in the league against other schools.
This is the second young person’s football team we have supported this year: we also helped sponsor kits for Eckington Boys & Belles Football Club in Derbyshire in January, while in June of last year we supported local sport in Nottinghamshire with the donation of a top-of-the-range exercise bike to Harworth Academy for School Sports Week.
Principal Helen Cawkill says: “This is the first year we’re involved in competitive football and sponsorships like this one are vital in helping us establish a team that feels authentic and that the children and their parents can be proud of.
“Retford is a very football-loving area. Nearby, we have Retford FC, an active football club where many of our children play and where parents are actively involved too. With this sponsorship, we’ve been able to connect our own academy’s sports to local sporting efforts in the wider Retford community. In Retford, an investment in football is an investment in the life of our community.
“We’re even lucky enough to have the Retford FC player, Hayden Goddard, help out with a lunchtime session training the children,” says Helen. “In combination with our P.E. curriculum, we’re really getting a team of stars together!
“The new kits have given the children a real confidence boost. We didn’t have a kit before, but now the children can compete while feeling like part of a real football team in these smart, professional-looking kits.
“I think something of central importance is that children at all schools, of all ages, get the opportunity to participate in sport, and especially in competitive events.
“It’s crucial to make sure that all talents and gifts are recognised and appreciated.
“We’re delighted with this generous sponsorship from Harron Homes, and we look forward to playing our next match!”
Retford, an ancient market town surrounded by the gorgeous Nottinghamshire countryside, is an area which we’re keen to support. This sponsorship follows last year’s donation to the local 7th Heaven Hedgehog Rescue, which helps conserve and look after the wildlife in the area.
