In homage to Carlton Playgroup’s annual scarecrow festival last weekend, we joined in the fun with our own scarecrow at The Hawthornes. To help celebrate this event we called on the support of Goole Men in Sheds, who created a fantastic Bob the Builder scarecrow to go outside our sales office.
Carlton Playgroup’s annual scarecrow festival is a local event that celebrates the creativity of children and their parents while raising funds for the playgroup itself, which is a charity organisation. This year’s trail, themed around characters from children’s books, saw scarecrows of The Cat in the Hat, Mister Men, The Hungry Caterpillar and many more, all enjoying a brief spot of sunshine this weekend.
For The Hawthornes’ own scarecrow, Tony Burndred, the Chair of the Goole Men in Sheds, got to work with his fellow craftsman to create a wooden Bob the Builder scarecrow based on the character from the tv show and book series.
Men in Sheds is a charity organisation with groups located across the entire UK. Established to provide a sense of community for retired men and women struggling to socialise, the organisation provides workshops where people can come together to practice woodworking and other crafts in a fun, friendly and communal environment.

The scarecrow looked brilliant and we’re delighted to be able to pay homage to the playgroup’s annual competition. There was a wonderful turnout and the children’s scarecrows were excellent!”
