Housebuilder, Harron Homes, has partnered with Chesterfield Borough Council and Destination Chesterfield for their Careers Made in Chesterfield initiative, speaking to local students about getting started in the construction industry.
Wayne Barrett, Technical Director at Harron Homes North Midlands, recently visited Parkside Community School to share his experiences in the industry and advise students on the variety of career paths available. This is his second visit having participated in the pilot workshop in December 2022.
Wayne said, “I was delighted to attend the careers workshop at Parkside Community School. At Harron we like to contribute to the local community in various ways, and schools are always key to that, whether that’s a book donation for younger kids, or careers advice for those almost ready to leave school.
“It’s fantastic that this initiative will help broaden the student’s career horizons while also addressing skills shortages within the construction sector.”
Mr Riggott, Headteacher at Parkside Community School, said: “The Careers Made in Chesterfield pilot represented a step change in creating sustained connections between our Year 10 students and some great local companies. Our students loved it!
“This model is fantastic for a number of reasons. Perhaps most importantly, students build their knowledge of and relationships with employers across the programme, which in turn enhances their confidence and the likely outcomes of work experience following an extremely informed choice.”
