A Forces couple from Derbyshire has been able to return to the UK and purchase their dream home in Sutton in Ashfield, thanks to Harron Homes’ Armed Forces discount.
Management accountant, Kerry Ansell (39), and her husband Kris (38), who is an aircraft engineer in the Navy, recently purchased a Birkwith style home off plan at Harron’s Brierley Heath development and are currently renting in Derbyshire whilst they wait for the property to be completed.
After three years living in South Carolina, it was time for the couple to settle back in the UK as Kris is now stationed at RAF Marham in Norfolk during the week. Brierley Heath in Skegby is perfectly situated for Kerry’s workplace.
Kerry said, “The area is ideal with good commuter links, while being just off the park for the countryside. The site feels like its own little village tucked away.
“I think that helps with the sense of community. We haven’t met our neighbours yet, but we’ve been chatting on social media already and they seem lovely!”
As their first home purchase together, the couple decided upon the convenience of a new home where DIY wouldn’t be needed once they moved in.
They originally considered a three-bedroom home, but opted for the four-bedroom detached Birkwith for the additional space.
The pair had been saving monthly to build a healthy deposit, aided by the Forces Help to Buy loan, but Harron’s Armed Forces discount made the bigger home feasible.
“The Armed Forces offer was mentioned on the Harron website, so we just enquired on site and they made it really easy to go ahead with. The purchasing experience has been really good so far, especially with Julie who has been awesome and helpful.
“Harron’s been good at keeping everything on course so we’re due to move in October, which would be amazing since that’s our fifth wedding anniversary!
“We’re currently renting a two-bed terrace house in Derbyshire, so we’re very much looking forward to having that extra space. The driveway was a must-have so we don’t need to struggle with street parking, and the garage means there’s room for Kris’ home brewing hobby. I’ve claimed the spare bedrooms; bedroom two will be a fabulous dressing room full of wardrobes, drawers and a dressing table while we’ve named the fourth bedroom the Imelda Marcos suite since it’ll be home to my 120+ pairs of shoes!”
