We are planting 1,100 trees at our Bishop’s Glade development in Ripon to improve biodiveristy and ecology.

The development which enjoys a handpicked location, typical of Harron developments, borders picturesque woodlands and is on the edge of countryside which provides many benefits for purchasers looking to blend luxury living with country life.

So far around 330 trees have been planted at the south and south western boundaries of the development to create an extension to the neighbouring Paddy Wood with a further 780 trees to be planted later this year.

A variety of UK-native trees are being planted at Bishop’s Glade including Field Maple, Silver Birch, Hazel, Hawthorn, Holly, Scots Pine, Blackthorn, Oak and Rowan. By planting trees native to the UK it is hoped that existing and new habitats for the animals are protected. Such an array of trees will provide wildlife such as birds, small mammals and pollen and nectar feeding invertebrates with new habitats and feeding grounds.

All the trees being planted are around one to two years old. By planting younger trees, it is hoped that they have a higher rate of survival and more of an opportunity to create a stronger root network.

The tree planting project at Bishop’s Glade will see a reduction in the development’s carbon footprint and is part of a wider ecology initiative, which includes the implementation of 20 bat and bird boxes across the development.

The Mayor of Ripon, Councillor Eamon Parkin joined us to lend a hand and plant some of the trees at the development.

Councillor Parkin said: “It’s wonderful to see local developers doing what they can to preserve the local wildlife and create beautiful nature spaces for local residents alike”.

Nature has played a huge part in contributing to wellbeing during the pandemic and has encouraged people to explore their local environments which has also inspired Harron to create more nature-friendly developments on new sites going forward.

Tony Lee, Managing Director at Harron Homes Yorkshire, said: “We are really proud of our commitment to preserve the environment surrounding our developments and our drive towards sustainability. It’s incredibly important that we are able to help our environment in any way we can.”

As a thank you for his contribution, Harron made a £250 donation to the Mayor’s Appeal which will be allocated to Ripon Visual Support Group. The charity offers people with sight loss the chance to meet weekly at Lister House in Ripon. The donation will go towards paying for a minibus for the charity to use to transport attendees, giving them more freedom for days out and an opportunity to access more facilities in the local area.

Bishop’s Glade is a popular family-focused development with 70% of homes already sold. Offering a selection of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes.
