We have decorated our luxurious Berkhamsted showhome at Kings Croft for Christmas and in the festive spirit we’re sharing expert advice from Janice Morris, of Janice Morris Interiors, so you can achieve equally professional décor this holiday season.
1. Prioritise your tree – A good tree is key. It’s completely up to you whether you go with a real or artificial, both have their pros and cons, but if you’re able to, buy in person so you can check the shape before taking it home. If you’re opting for a real tree, look into non-needle drop varieties to avoid some of the mess!
2. Pick a colour – Choose two or three colours (we opted for a traditional red, green, and gold in the Berkhamsted) and stick to them throughout the house. You’ll see we used the same baubles on the tree, in the door wreath, and on the dining room centrepieces for a cohesive look. Be mindful of your current colour schemes; the showhome walls are mostly neutral so the bright reds and greens on the tree don’t clash.
3. Don’t be afraid of variety – If you’ve got a colour scheme in place you’re able to use all sorts of shapes and sizes of bauble without it looking too busy. Alongside simple spheres, we also used bells and flowers to add more texture.
4. Space out your décor – Hang the lights on the tree first, making sure they’re evenly distributed, then start hanging your baubles. Let them hang freely, not touching any other branches where possible – a lot easier on an artificial tree! Be sure to take a step back every so often and assess where there are gaps, or clusters of the same colour.
We want to admire your decorative skills. For the chance to win £250 of Trouva gift vouchers, submit a photo of your dressed up tree to the Harron Facebook or Instagram page by 17th December 2021.
